Squam Lakes Land Preservation
Photo and Submission by Tristan Hayes, FPU class of 2019.

Image The Squam Lakes watershed in central New Hampshire includes both Big and Little Squam Lake, the Squam River, and many ponds, brooks, and streams that feed into the lakes. Through donations from the public and conservation easement agreements with local landowners, the Squam Lakes Conservation Society currently monitors over 7500 acres of land around the Squam Lakes region, including over 19 miles of coastline. By protecting this land, the Society hopes to ensure that the natural beauty and historical significance in the area is preserved for countless future generations, and that "a harmony between the natural environment and mankind is preserved forever" (Squam Lakes Conservation Society, 2015).
